Town Hall - Stage 2
The Auckland Town Hall is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city's CBD. Situated on Queen Street, right next to Aotea Square, it serves as a central part of daily life for Aucklanders, who often gather in the square with the grand building as a backdrop.
A few years ago, a restoration programme was launched to ensure the Town Hall remains in excellent condition for many more decades to come. We're proud to have played a role in this important project, having worked on Stage 1 and now on Stage 2, which focused on restoring the building’s distinctive "prow".
This project presented several challenges, requiring us to apply a range of our specialised skills, including rendering repairs, lead installation, stonework restoration, carving, and more. It's been a rewarding experience to contribute to the preservation of such a historic and beloved building.
Lime Works has been entrusted with:
Re-carving stone decorative elements.
Deconstruction and re-build of stone elements.
New stonework to match existing.
Repair stone scars and deteriorated stone faces.
Plaster repairs.
Steam cleaning and biociding.
Repairing old bird-proofing elements and installing new ones where needed.
